Squeeze lime into glass, drop limeinto glass. Add ice, then vodka. Top up with ginger beer, garnish with mint sprig & lime. Interesting why? This was the drink that launched Smirnoff to great popularity in the 1940's. Before then, people weren't sure how to drink vodka, so it languished in the US. This drink became popular with Hollywood, and then tookover the US, at least until the red scare in the 1950's. Its spicy & refreshing. Ginger Beer: you can find it if you look around, its much spicier than ginger ale. Brands we've found recently - Sioux City (no website) & Stewart's |
The Pegu Club Cocktail** Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into martini glass. Garnish with orange wedge. Interesting why? It was invented at the exclusive Pegu Club in Burma, and began appearing all over the world. Its a very interesting, complex drink - the proportions are very important. This is our favorite version - recipes vary on the lime & curacao, and some recommend a dash of orange bitters as well. Experiment! |

Great name, great drink, and was originally part of a series of drinks intended as morning drinks. Harry Craddock said "four of these taken in swift succession will unrevive the corpse again." |

And One More Recipe The Communist* Interesting why? This recipe was first published in 1933, and was publicized with a provocative picture - it caught on for awhile, but has mostly been forgotten. Its a great one though! |
